Visitors can't tell an honest tailor from a coordinated suit scam
A tourist on r/ThailandTourism posted that he fell for the 'suit scam', which he called 'well coordinated', and asked mods to pin a list of common scams. Meanwhile a suit shop manager near Khao San reports fewer tourists than last year, so honest tailors are competing with scammers for the same walk-by customers.

5 ways to tackle it
Hardware and sensors
Door Plate: an NFC plate on an honest tailor's door with fixed prices
A small plate by the shop door lists fixed prices, fabric per meter, fitting days and the final delivery date in five languages. Walk-by tourists tap or scan to see it and to book without pressure. The honest tailor now has a way to be seen on the same street as the scammers.
Build with NTAG NFC tag, laminated QR plate, Next.js, Claude translation
Camera and vision
Quote Check: photograph a tailor's price list and see if the deal is fair
A tourist photographs the tailor's menu or the offer written on paper. Claude vision reads the items and compares fabric grade, number of pieces and price with a usual range for Bangkok. It marks 'super 150 wool, 3 pieces, 3,900' as high and shows what to ask.
Build with Claude vision, Bangkok tailor price table, Next.js PWA
iPhone and Android app
Detour Alarm: buzzes when a tuk-tuk ride drifts away from where you asked to go
The tourist enters the destination and starts the ride. If the route moves more than 400 meters off the line to the destination or stops at a shop, the phone vibrates and shows 'say stop here, I will walk'. It catches the 'palace is closed, come to my cousin's tailor' detour.
Build with React Native or PWA geolocation, OpenStreetMap routing, haptics
Voice and phone
Earbud Whisper: say what a stranger just told you and hear a calm answer in your ear
The tourist taps once and says 'a man says the Grand Palace is closed today and offers a tuk-tuk'. A short voice in the earbud says 'common scam, say no thank you and walk on'. It works hands-free when someone is standing in front of you.
Build with Whisper, Claude, TTS, PWA with Bluetooth headset
Data and maps
Pocket Map Printer: a hostel desk prints a map of fixed-price tailors and detour spots
A kiosk or a thermal printer at a hostel front desk prints a one-page map: fixed-price tailors, 'palace closed' hot spots, tuk-tuk fair prices for the area. A tourist gets the printout as they check in, before the first walk. It is the right paper at the right desk.
Build with Next.js, Google Maps static, curated tailor list, thermal or A4 printer
