A Mahidol University study reported by Pattaya Mail found about 70.5 percent of older people had been tricked into sharing personal information online and 22.4 percent into buying low-quality products. Research in two Watthana District communities found many seniors use digital payments and chat but lack awareness of cybersecurity laws and official reporting channels.

5 ways to tackle it

  • Hardware and sensors

Safe Word Card: a wallet card with a family code word and the real children's number

A volunteer or grandchild sets a family code word and the three numbers the senior should call before sending money. The tool prints a laminated card with large type and a QR to a one-page explainer, so a fake 'your son is in trouble' call hits a wall.

Build with Static site, PDF template, thermal or normal printer, laminator

  • Camera and vision

Screen Guard: photograph a screen, ask what you are looking at

The senior photographs a suspicious SMS, a QR code or a bank-like page. Vision explains in large Thai type whether it looks like a known scam pattern, what the scammer wants and what to do, without sharing the message with anyone.

Build with Claude vision, scam pattern library, large-type mobile web

  • Voice and phone

Call Coach: put the phone on speaker and it whispers when a call sounds like a scam

During a suspicious call the senior puts the phone on speaker next to a second device. The coach listens, and when it hears patterns like fake police, 'transfer to a safe account' or urgent threats, it says out loud in Thai, 'this is a scam, hang up'.

Build with Whisper streaming, Claude classifier, mobile web, Thai TTS

  • Web portal

Scam Dojo: a ten-minute role-play game volunteers run on the community TV

A volunteer or grandchild plays host while seniors take turns against an AI scammer who tries the real scripts. Wrong replies cost the player points and each round ends with the law and the reporting channel in one line, so people practice before it happens.

Build with React, Claude role-play, large screen mode, scoring

  • Automation and APIs

Report Pack: one tap builds what the police and the bank ask for

After a scam the senior or helper takes screenshots and the tool compiles a timeline, account numbers, phone numbers and a letter for the bank and the police. The hardest part of reporting becomes a printed folder.

Build with Claude, OCR, PDF generator, known report channels list
