A Thai Chamber of Commerce University survey of 1,243 riders found 64.2% use no ride app, citing hassle, not knowing how, and extra cost, and they say customers stopped walking to the win; riders on apps earned 1,741.95 baht more a month. Riders average 974.81 baht a day, but fuel, bike installments and vest rent take about 11,634 baht a month, and 69.4% carry debt of around 185,858 baht. In March 2026 a news post shared on Pantip said riders on Charan Sanitwong and Vibhavadi roads complained after fuel rose 6 baht. A 2026 Bangkok pilot rents EV bikes at 75 to 140 baht a day to ease those costs.

5 ways to tackle it

  • Hardware and sensors

Rider Sticker: a QR on the vest that rings the rider's own phone

Each rider gets a waterproof sticker for the vest and a laminated card for nearby shops. Scanning it opens a one-tap call or a 'pick me up at 7:10' form that goes to that rider's phone, so a regular can reach the same rider without installing any ride app.

Build with QR generator, waterproof sticker print, Cloudflare Workers, SMS gateway

  • Voice and phone

Win Line: neighbors call one number and the nearest free rider's phone rings

Older neighbors who never installed an app call one number and say where they are and where they are going. A Thai voice agent reads the request back, checks which riders in the win are free and rings them in order until one accepts, so the group keeps the fare instead of an app.

Build with Twilio voice, Thai speech recognition, Claude, Google Sheets roster

  • Camera and vision

Notebook Reader: photo of the pocket notebook gives true take-home per day

Riders already jot trips and costs in a pocket notebook. Claude vision reads a photo of the page, subtracts fuel, vest rent and the bike installment, and shows what was left per day and per week, so a rider can see when a 6 baht fuel rise or a slow day pushes the month into the red.

Build with Claude vision, Google Sheets, simple web page

  • Web portal

Fixed Run Cards: print the weekly school and market runs for regular families

A rider enters the repeat jobs he already does, such as the 7:10 school drop and the 6:00 market run for an aunty. The page prints a pocket card per family with times, price and his number, so repeat income is agreed in advance and stops depending on who walks past.

Build with Next.js, print-ready PDF, QR code

  • Hardware and sensors

Win Bell: a big button at a market stall or condo gate that buzzes the win

A shop or a market vendor with a heavy load presses a big button instead of walking to the win. An ESP32 sends a message to the win's group phone and a small speaker at the win beeps, and the first rider to tap 'go' is shown on a little screen at the button.

Build with ESP32, arcade button, small OLED, buzzer, Wi-Fi hotspot, SMS
