Teens in poor families quit school to nurse a parent or pay their own way, and can't find the scholarship or study route that fits
A 15 year old wrote that next month he must leave school to care for his unconscious father and his grandmother, and keep his 11 year old sister in school. He asks what to do, and commenters throw out vocational study, กยศ., scholarships and กศน. in a scattered thread. Another poster, a vocational-certificate graduate whose parents died when he was 15, paid for his own studies and could not get a กยศ. loan. He asks which scholarships exist for someone like him because a university's rural quota is only open to general-track students.

Teachers who run school lunch spend more time on daily photo reports than on lessons, and the per-child budget doesn't cover the menu
A teacher who runs her school's lunch program says she now does more lunch paperwork than lesson prep: photos of incoming ingredients, cooking, finished food and every tray, posted to the school page daily. Her example is 120 pupils at 24 baht each, 2,880 baht a day, with about 600 baht going to labor, gas and transport, while pork is 100 baht a kilo in the official price system and 130 to 150 at the market. Cooks have quit 3 or 4 times, and food the kids skip goes in the bin. At another school, parents complained about small portions on 22 baht a head: 303 pupils, 6,666 baht a day.

Teens choosing a university faculty rely on years-old forum guesses about whether graduates find jobs
On Dek-D a student who likes communication arts wrote that family wants doctor, nurse or engineering because they fear graduates won't find work, and replies split between 'study what you like' and 'study what has jobs'. A 2017 poster got scared when told a geology graduate ended up selling medical equipment, and got opposing answers: few government positions versus the best-paid science degree. A 2020 engineering thread had one reply saying engineers get pushed out when older and another with a 58 year old earning 110,000 baht a month. Answers are anecdotes, some years old.

Khlong Toei kids who work mornings or have parents on long shifts can't keep up with school
A community coordinator in Khlong Toei, with an estimated 200,000 residents, says children work before school and many leave school to earn money; non-formal students can attend only on Sundays because weekday activities clash with work. A nearby kindergarten says long working days make supervision hard and demand exceeds places. One school starts at 10 AM so children can work first and adds two hours of homework help.

Bangkok families pay thousands of baht a month for tutoring because school lessons miss the entrance exams
A student quoted by Chiang Mai CityLife attends tutoring four to five times a week for 2,000 to 3,000 baht a month, over 7,000 near exams. A 2014 survey found 60.2 percent of high school students tutor because school lessons don't match entrance exams, and a professor says poorer students fear falling behind. KResearch put Bangkok parents' 2012 education spending, including tutoring, at about 22.5 billion baht.

Parents can't tell which school charges are allowed or why uniform subsidy receipts are kept or rejected
A parent of a Mathayom 1 student was told to buy the 500 baht uniform at an outside shop and bring the receipt, then learned the school would keep the money for activities; she estimated 250,000 baht across 500 students and asked where to complain. A parent in Phitsanulok describes a mandatory 300 baht commemorative shirt, with non-buyers reportedly deducted from a pending equipment-fee refund.

Freelance tutors can't find steady students and lose income when learners cancel or vanish
Older Pantip threads: a tutor near Kasetsart posted on Dek-D and nobody contacted her, broker jobs were too far away, and a tutor of 4-5 years wrote a long list of rules for students who change schedules last minute or go silent. The threads are several years old, so check current numbers.

Foreigners learning Thai stall at the alphabet and can't get conversation practice
A learner posted that memorizing the alphabet, vowels and grammar is hard and she fears her phrases sound inaccurate; another asked how to learn from scratch with reading and writing. A half-Thai newcomer says his Thai is decent but not good enough for deeper friendships.

Migrant parents don't know their kids can enroll in Bangkok schools; kids lack Thai
A 2025 Bangkok pilot survey of out-of-school migrant children found: 30% could not speak Thai, 12% had no documents, and 52% fell under other reasons, including parents wrongly thinking the child was ineligible or not knowing where or how to register. Bang Khun Thian reports limited Thai as the main classroom challenge.

Teachers at small schools spend hundreds of hours a term on reports, PR and coordination
An Equitable Education Fund study found small-school teachers teach 27.31 hours a week, 37.6% above the Ministry standard; 47.7% say workload lowers teaching quality and 63% say work-life balance is badly broken. Extra duties include grade coordination (874 hours a semester), academic affairs (777) and public relations (468). Schools lack admin, PR and finance staff.
